KOPANICE, BOSNIA & HERZEGOVINA — VM Disaster Response Team removing roof tiles from the house designated for demolition

According to estimation of Bosnian authorities, in some flooded areas 50-70% of the houses are damaged beyond repair and will need to be demolished. Stashko’s family house survived fire during the war in 1990’s, but in recent flood it suffered serious structural damage and is on the list for demolition.

VM Disaster Response Team came to help Stashko and his family to save as much material before bulldozers arrive. Our team helped to remove roof tiles and wooden beams which will be used on the construction of the new house. Stashko is active member of local humanitarian organization as well as Red Cross volunteer. Stashko’s priority was helping others and he left his own house and farm to wait while he was helping those who were in bigger need. We were really glad to be there to help him and his family.

As our new team member Boldizsar from Hungary is experienced videographer, we are bringing you two short videos of today’s action.

Sincerely yours,

VM Disaster Response Team
